Welcome to the home page of the Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia. Join us this year as we continue to present the world’s most beloved and unusual chamber music in venues throughout the metro Richmond area.
Our fifth season kicked off in December with one of our traditional “Candlelight” concerts. This year “Classics by Candlelight” featured music for strings and flute by composers from the Romantic era. CMSCVA favorites Mary Boodell and James Wilson were joined by violinist Erin Keefe and violinist/violist Catherine Cho, two virtuoso musicians who have been awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. These musicians joined forces to perform the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Alexander Borodin, and Brahms’ contemporary Carl Reineke.
In a concert we called “Back to Bach,” cellist James Wilson returned in January to complete the cycle of Bach’s Suites for solo cello.
For our signature event on April 19-24, we will present the fifth annual Richmond Festival of Music: The Eighteenth Century Returns to Richmond
focuses on the fabulous music of the 18th century. For one week venues across Richmond will ring with the sounds of Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, Bach and Vivaldi. Joining us for this week of four concerts and other events will be world-class musicians from Europe and the United States, performing on both period and modern instruments.
